Competitors covered 9 more special stages in second leg of Rally Mexico. At first glimpse it was more successful for "Citroën" drivers than for some of the "Volkswagen's" at the top.
Leader after first leg Anton Kochetkov continued what he started. Russian has a solid strategy for Rally Mexico and goes strong in each stage. In second leg he won 5 more special stages and doubled his lead to 1min 33sec. Of course Anton had some small adventures in second leg but overall it went quite well for him,- "OK! Tires damaged 100/75. But overall OK day for me! Good Luck all and see you in last day and on Power Stage (smiles)".
Juan Marzoa was 2nd after first leg but he again switched positions with Alex Karkach in frist stage of the second leg due to Juan's bad performance on Guanajuatito stage. For Gedvis Ralistaz and his "Volkswagen Polo R WRC" this stages was first and last that day. Lithuanian survived a serious crash when hitting some rocks after fast jump over crest. Ralistaz was in great 6th place after first leg. But this was just a beginning for "VW" drivers. In repeated run of Guanajuatito two more "Polo's" where crashed. Arnas Kerbelys who was driving with Super Rally rule showed a good speed in second leg but it didn't last long as same as Juan Marzoa's hopes to catch Alex. Both of them had accidents in SS13.
After Juan was out of the fight for 2nd place Alex Karkach could breath more freely because he has Tomek Wach behind him with less powerful "Škoda Fabia R5". However Tomek was faster than Alex in half of the second leg stages so he was cutting some time from Alex advantage. But 43.60sec gap could be just too much for Tomek to overtake Alex.
What ever it will be Pole is a leader in WRC 2 classification and 3rd place in overall would be very good result, knowing he can earn some extra points in Power Stage,- "Some mistakes but generally I'm just holding my position, there is anything to gain by taking more risk. I'm waiting for the Power Stage". Jyrki Niemela has no chances to catch Tomek if he doesn't make a mistake. Because Tomek was faster than Jyrki in every second leg stage except the last one where Jyrki manage to win it by very tiny advantage. Before last day Jyrki has +1min 36sec from Tomek and 3min 21sec advantage on Jan Gais from Slovakia in 3rd place.
Oscar Estévez finished second leg in 10th position overall and of course is still leading WRC 3 classification, but he doesn't stop from criticizing himself even after showing top 10 stage times in overall,- "Really bad second day... see you tomorrow". Rafal Majka had best chances to use Oscar mistakes and overtake him, but Pole crashed in very first second leg stage as many others. Now Czech Milan Reznicek fights for 2nd place with Mariusz Domanus. Both of them drove very similar in second leg having some good and bad stages. In the end they are separated by tiny 6.17 seconds. We should see a really nice fight between these guys in last day because Oscar is 7min away from them.
Just three stages left in last day but they can be very important as last three steps for rope acrobat. Probably we wont see any major changes in leader positions but no doubt that many drivers will show their maximum skill at Power Stages where whey can earn some lost points.
