6th event of Open RBR-LT WRC 2019 season started without one of the championship leaders but competition is in very high level. Rally Argentina has attracted 60 participants to tackle 17 special stages and after first leg top 10 drivers are in very tight battle. Sadly Anton Kochetkov didn't showed up neither at Shakedown nor at Rally Argentina start. Russian Rocket was in entry list but he is forced to miss this very important event and suspend his fight for first place in overall standings.
The Pole Jurek Bogdanowicz, won the opening rain-soaked 1km street stage in host town Villa Carlos Paz and started his lead form the very first stage. Many drivers god lost in this stage due to confusing route, one of them was current championship leader Tomek Wach who lost almost 8 seconds to stage winner. Despite unlucky start, Tomek won next two stages, but it wasn't enough to catch Jurek. Later on Polish drivers shared by two stage wins in the rest four stages not letting anyone else to win a single stage. In the end Jurek leads by 8.33sec over Tomek and is waiting for second leg battles,- "Happy to finish first leg. 1st pace was mediocre and with mistakes. Waiting for day two". Meanwhile Tomek was a bit disappointed,- "Stupid spin on the first stage so the gap is quite big now but I will try to push a little in the next days. Hopefully this is gonna be a clean rally... (smiles)". 3rd place is taken by Czech Libor Tomecek who is losing 1min to rally leader, and Libor has Juan Maroa just 4.19sec behind him in 4th place.
Michal Szparski was in great fight with Jan Gais for a first place in WRC 2 classification until a big mistake in SS4 where he lost almost a minute of precious time. That let Jan win the first leg by 48.79sec against Onkamo Hasse in second place. After mistake Michal was cutting back some time from Slovakian and now he is in 3rd place just 1sec behind Onkamo. So the next days will be a maximum attack for Michal and Jan knows it,- "Some offs, some stages first time on wet but interesting rally, result will be changing but hope to see the finish". All the other drivers are more than a minute behing the top 3 group.
First day was quite bad for WRC 3 leader Oscar Estévez. After winning first four stages Portuguese driver met some serious problems and lost many time, that dropped Oscar to 3rd place with little bit more that an minute gap from class leader,- "Bad day for me... Objective - win rally. See you tomorrow". So far leader in WRC 3 is Remus Diaconescu which is keeping Pole Pawel Wojdat behind his back with Opel ADAM and 35sec gap.
Leg one passed and we have all WRC car makes in top 10 with amazing seconds battle between the pilots. 42 crews survived wet Argentinian roads without getting a Super Rally penalty and some more drivers could get some time back if SS1 results will be canceled. So far the investigation is happening on SS1 route, some crews has given a statements that the opening stage was confusing and not as in the road book. The decision should come in the near future.
